Q: Shortage on housing causes severe social consequences. The government should act on this alone. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement? Give your opinion.
Shelter is a basic need of people in any walks of life. Lack of necessary housing is caused by many factors in the economic balance in a country. On the other hand, the demand it creates causes the market to evolve to provide this necessity for the people.
As regards to this, the real estate industry has started to grow to make a profit out of this growing demand. I myself have worked in the real estate industry and I know the advantages in the business. Competition has been high and the standards set by this trend made quality results that meet the need of the public.
Furthermore, the assistance of the private sector to address the need of providing every family an abode of their own greatly alleviates the situation of the growing nation. Land developments have been progressive and roads are built without the need of government assistance. Rural areas have been developed into suburbs hence increasing the value of land as well as the quality of life of its inhabitants.
However, I strongly believe that despite the movement of private corporations, the government still plays a major factor in this development. The economy is a crucial factor as it sets the market value of the products sold to the clients. The government is responsible for the state of the nation, hence weak economy spells inflation causing the prices to go up.
Furthermore, in spite of the growth provided by the real estate companies, the consumers that they could only cater to are the ones who are rich and have enough income to pay for their dues. As a matter of fact, these corporation's favorite customers are the ones going abroad who are earning the needed amount to afford expensive payments leaving the poor, which comprises the majority of society, homeless and deprived of the basic human need.
Therefore, I conclude that to be able to cater to the needs of the people in all walks of society, the government should play a big role on the issue of habitation. If the economic growth is appropriate, it should also affect the living conditions of the general public.
